Computing

We teach Computing at Barrington Primary School.  This includes using the internet, writing and testing simple programs. We teach the children how technology can be used effectively and safely in different subjects.

We teach children the skills and programs they need to use computing in other areas of the curriculum, for example helping with Literacy, Maths or a History topic.

Children will learn about which programs to use for different situations, they’ll use a variety of pieces of equipment such as cameras, videos or devices to measure heart rate. They will begin to learn about writing and testing simple instructions. They will work towards creating simple games and animations.

As technology changes, new pieces of equipment will be tried and tested. Children will talk about the usefulness of programmes and websites.

Part of our computing curriculum covers internet  safety , this includes safe use of the internet and other forms of social media, including our own DB Primary site. Our internet is filtered to ensure the content is safe for children. The teachers monitor the internet access of the children and we teach them what to do if something they see on screen worries or upsets them.

We teach most of these skills through other subject areas with the aim to make our children safe, responsible and thoughtful users of the resources available.
