Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

We have 32 children in our class; 18 are boys and 14 are girls. Our teacher is Mrs Kerr and our teaching assistants are Mrs Moorhouse and Mrs Iles. Mrs Ashley teaches our class on a Friday.

We have PE on a  Tuesday. Please make sure you have the full PE kit in school. You will need a t-shirt, shorts, jumper, socks and a tracksuit (this is very important as  we will be going outside for as long as possible and you will need to keep warm).  It is important to regularly check that your plimsolls or trainers still fit.  We will be going swimming every Wednesday. Please remember to bring your swimming costume and a towel. You will also need a coat for the walk back.

We will be doing maths, English, GVPS (Grammar, Vocabulary, Punctuation and Spelling), handwriting and guided reading every day. Our Master of Tables test is on a Monday and our weekly spelling test is on a Friday. Other topics we are studying this year include Forces and Magnets, Animals and Humans, Rocks and Soils, Light and Plants in Science. We will be learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and the Roman Empire in History. Our geography topics include looking at the Earth from space and identifying rivers and mountains of the UK. As well as learning about Christianity, we will be studying Sikhism. You will begin to learn Spanish in Year 3 and Mrs Chanchai will be teaching you music skills every Friday.

Reading is very important and you can change your school reading books as soon as you need to as you become increasingly independent.

English and Maths homework will be given out on a Tuesday and must be returned no later than the following Monday.

We are all looking forward to a fun and successful year.
